Hannah’s Prayer

Beyond the Relief of Possession,
Into the Rest of Sovereignty

Hannah’s prayer is more than a fleeting burst of joy over a fulfilled wish. Her gaze moves past the gift to the character of the Giver. The paradox—of life and death, poverty and wealth, abasement and exaltation—is for her not the whim of fate, but the ‘perfect governance’ of God.

While the world seeks security in possession, Hannah finds rest in the unfolding of His providence. When the hand that empties and fulfills becomes the ‘ground of trust’ rather than a source of confusion, the soul drops an unyielding anchor that defies the surrounding turbulence. Our joy begins not in the answer received, but in the recognition that He is the only Rock that remains unmoved.
