Just One Touch

From Unclean Shadow to Child of Light

The twelve-year struggle of the woman in Mark 5 represents the limits of human effort. Suffering from a chronic affliction, she exhausted every resource to save herself, only to find deeper despair and the label of “unclean.” Her story mirrors the universal human condition: the realization that our brokenness cannot be mended by our own strength or the Law.

While the Law commands the unclean to stay away, the Gospel reveals the Holy One reaching out to cover the broken. Even from the depths of this despair, she reached out in faith. The title of this song, “Just One Touch,” does not emphasize the intensity of her reach, but rather the sufficiency of Christ’s grace—a divine transfer that required only the slightest contact. The moment she touched His garment, the “Great Exchange” took place. Christ took her shame and agony upon Himself, and in return, draped her in His own righteousness and life.

“Daughter.”

By calling her “Daughter” before the crowd, Jesus did more than mend her flesh. He transformed her from an outcast into His own child. She was no longer a shadow defined by judgment, but a child of light—redefined and lifted by the Savior’s absolute love.
